Egmond produced nearly four hundred years of spectacular paintings. De Schilders van Egmond proves why the colony is rightly barbed in art history. Dutch book
From the moment painters started to visit Egmond, the fishing village has been ceaselessly painted and photographed caught. And not by the least. Cornelis Buys, Jacob van Ruisdeal and Willem Kool made seascapes through which the Egmond wind blew. Today their works hang in museums all over the world.
George Hitchcock and Gari Melchers turned Egmond into an international art colony. The Art Summer School was also born, which was visited by painters from all over Europe and America in the summer. This resulted in the Egmond School, a style of painting that existed in Egmond from 1890 to 1905.
