New York art critic Michael J. Fressola said of his maritime work in 2014: “Few move as far from the literal sea as Peter de Rijcke. Forget the calm blue / ultramarine / gray tones of the northern Atlantic, he's in a far brighter, more fiery and saturated color field altogether. ”
Techniques used by him are oil paint or acrylic paint on canvas, watercolor, gouache and screen printing. He finds favorite work locations in the Zaan region, Amsterdam, Bergen in North Holland, the coasts of the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea and the French Normandy.
