'Blauw en Groen' is the extensive sequel to the sold-out standard work 'Paint, 500,000 years of paint and painting'. An original, richly illustrated and accessible book that links the practice of painting with theoretical art history. The set-up of the whole is historical. How do we look at art and how has the use of color developed. But also technically: which pigments were used in the past and which are now. Each pigment is treated separately in a global context. Much attention is also paid to the deep-rooted color symbology and functions of the two colors, in which blue and green coincide with each other, but can also be each other's opposites. A separate chapter is devoted to the often disastrous influence of time and light on colors, and thus on our perception of a work of art. A unique book on all aspects of human use of color, written from the artist's perspective.
