Oil on canvas, 18 x 18 cm, in wooden frame.
Adri Frigge, Rotterdam, 1947
With portraits I try to keep the core of the image by omitting, and also to get a dialogue with the other space around it, especially by creating it let 'come in' in the portrait, says Adri Frigge.
In addition to all the techniques that were still compulsory at the time, the Academy of Visual Arts has a cycle etchings based on contemporary music. For this he received the 'threshold price'. Music and etching have since remained a main line in his work, alongside work in oil, watercolor (portraits) and pastel. He has been affiliated with the CKVU since 1977; now the Mondriaanhuis. The etchings of Adri have their origins in music, especially from 20th century composers. In the pleasure of it he follows the flow in craftsmanship: where does the tone in the silence touch the line in white? Etchings are for Adri Frigge often visual music, a line in white has the same experience for him as a sound in the space. He also makes many portraits, both in etching and in pastel, watercolor, oil paint and pencil.
Adri Frigge lives and works in Sint-Oedenrode.
